Note No. 9
April 16, 2008
So I have officially begun Month Four and I just now added photos from months 2 and 3. Yeah. I am on Mexican time.
I went to Immigration today. It was my second trip, but the first as an official Document Turner-Inner. My first attempt at getting a work visa failed. Don’t ask. Something about grudges and old men working past their prime. So I have taken matters into my own hands and after a three-day hide-away in Miami, thanks to Jim, who put me up on 15 hours’ notice AND let me use his day passes to go to The Standard hotel’s super posh gym, I was able to get a new tourist visa and re-enter the country and start the whole dirty process over again — except this time I am going to actually get my visa; right? Right.
Other news: I gave up coffee. To those who know me well, this was a major achievement and sacrifice. I consider coffee to be half the reason to get up in the morning. OK, I did. But then kidney stones came along and deemed it too acidic or something like that, so I have been drinking lots of green tea and as of tomorrow, yerba mate.
There is a cold snap on the island, and though many might view it as an early spring, there are many unhappy souls here. They want their beach-bathing back. I’m not complaining in the slightest.
Nothing else to say at the moment. Hope everyone else is doing well, too.
